Family Visas for Relatives

Petitions for an Immigrant VISA for an unmarried child of a US Citizen, if the child is under the age of 21, are given highest priority (same as the priority given to spouses of a US Citizen).

Also given highest priority are petitions for a parent of a US Citizen.

All other relationships are considered at a lower priority in the following order:

First Preference: Unmarried sons or daughters over 21 years of age of a US Citizen.

Second Preference: Spouses and children of Legal Permanent Resident.

Third Preference: Married children of a US Citizen.

Fourth Preference: Siblings of a US Citizen.

The non-immigrant V Visa is also available to spouses and children of Legal Permanent Residents. This allows these relatives to come into the US while awaiting an Immigrant Visa.

There are many rules and requirements involved in obtaining a Visa for a relative. Please consider a legal consultation if you wish to do this.
